A weekend building European digital sovereignty

A weekend building European digital sovereignty | CivAI News

This past weekend was entirely dedicated to building, testing, and collaborating during the Megathon.

With our team, we submitted Sovereign Eyes: a European drone defence system. Daniel Verloop and Joachim Defour, in particular, put a lot of work into this. Joachim brought valuable expertise from Belgium in software, robotics, and industrial systems, which really strengthened the drone concept.

We did not win any prizes, but we did receive an honourable mention from the jury. A nice recognition for what was achieved in such a short time.

But the Megathon yielded more than just one product.

In addition to Sovereign Eyes, we continued to develop three important components of the CivAI ecosystem.

Aran and Pascal developed a CivAI Customer Portal, where customers can easily log in and access EduGPT, GovGPT, OrgGPT and CareGPT from a single, clear dashboard.

We also continued work on CivAI Studio, our environment for vibe coding, experimenting, and developing AI applications more rapidly.

And Eduard has laid a solid foundation for our GRC/SOC Platform: a GitOps-driven platform for governance, risk, compliance, and security operations, running on a European Kubernetes environment within Scaleway Kapsule. With Argo CD for GitOps, CloudNativePG for a private HA PostgreSQL layer, and a clear separation between infrastructure, platform components, and ISMS workloads.

A European AI ecosystem in which applications, infrastructure, governance, and security are interconnected from the outset. Not dependent on Big Tech. Not built for convenience alone. But on control, responsibility, and trust.

All hosted within Europe.

For us, this is exactly what CivAI stands for: building sovereign, human-centred technology that helps organisations deploy AI responsibly.

Not just talking about European digital autonomy, but actually building it.
