Build AI automations with n8n, now directly from the EduGPT chat
New in EduGPT. You can now build AI automations in n8n directly from the EduGPT chat, the secure European AI chat environment for education. No more dragging blocks or typing JavaScript. Simply describe in plain language what you want, and the n8n mate companion will build, test, and publish the workflow for you.
In this new knowledge clip, our CEO and Co-founder Pascal Mariany demonstrates how it works using three examples.
What you’ll see in the knowledge clip
The first example is a quiz form with three multiple-choice questions about Area 51. EduGPT creates a form in n8n, a node that stores the answers, a piece of JavaScript that calculates the score, and a results page. Pascal then takes the quiz himself and gets two out of three questions correct.
The second example is a webhook that calculates a grade based on achieved and maximum points. With a single follow-up question in the chat, EduGPT converts that webhook into a web form where you can enter the values yourself. The workflow that is already running is adjusted, republished, and retested.
Finally, Pascal uploads a Word document containing a rubric of the HBO-i professional tasks. EduGPT scans the document, builds the workflow, validates it, and publishes the rubric as an interactive web page, with filtering by level and a print button. This took about three minutes—just enough time for a cup of coffee.
How the integration works
EduGPT communicates with n8n via MCP, the Model Context Protocol. Pascal refers to it in the clip as a kind of USB plug for the internet. Through this open standard, EduGPT connects to n8n, creates workflows, tests them, and publishes them. You can see exactly which tools are being used in the chat, so you can monitor and check as a human.
n8n is an open platform for AI automation that can run entirely in Europe, and that’s how we’ve set it up for this demo. Behind the n8n mate companion, the open model GLM 5.2 runs on Scaleway’s European cloud. The companion also has access to the latest n8n documentation, so the workflows built are compatible with the newest version.
The same integration also works in GovGPT for government, OrgGPT for organisations, and CareGPT for healthcare.
Why this matters
What would normally take two hours of work without coding experience, you can now do in five minutes, estimates Pascal. A lesson feedback form, a newsletter generator, a calculation on an Excel file. Teachers, ICT coordinators, and educational developers can create such tools themselves, without waiting for a developer.
Because the data stays in Europe, including the AI models, you can make agreements with your ICT department and data protection officer about what is and isn’t allowed. Think of scanning your email or processing files. If CivAI sets up the integration for you, we take over management and logging, with a proper data processing agreement and privacy statement.
For us, true sovereignty lies in the AI models themselves. Hosting a chat environment in an American cloud with closed models was already possible two years ago. The difference now is in open models like GLM 5.2 on Scaleway or Apertus from Switzerland, without dependence on Big Tech. Especially in an era of AI, that is a conscious choice.
Previously, the knowledge clip about the integration with Edusources and Edurep appeared, allowing you to search for open educational resources directly in the chat. The integration with n8n is the next step. Alongside the integrations with Canvas, Edurep, and Edusources, this makes EduGPT an environment where you not only talk to AI, but also truly build with it.
Get started yourself
All EduGPT pilots and customers can make use of this integration. Would you like n8n in your own EduGPT environment? Email pascal@civai.eu, and we’ll look together at what’s needed. We’re always open to collaboration, including with larger organisations. Together we are stronger.
