CivAI is a Founding Member of BRAIN Netherlands, the trade association for AI

Since 24 September 2026, CivAI has been a Founding Member of BRAIN Nederland, the Dutch AI Industry Association. BRAIN was established in April 2026 as the first industry association for the Dutch AI sector, bringing together AI providers and organisations that apply AI, from government and education to healthcare and SMEs.

Why we are becoming a member

BRAIN places trust, quality, and responsibility at its core. Members endorse a code of conduct with ten principles. Humans remain in control, data is handled with care, legislation such as the AI Act and GDPR is complied with, and members are honest about what AI can and cannot do.

This aligns seamlessly with the way we work at CivAI. EduGPT, GovGPT, OrgGPT, and CareGPT run on European infrastructure, with data under the organisation’s own control and people at the helm. Especially in an age of AI, it is important that providers hold each other to account on these principles, rather than competing on promises.

"An industry association that puts quality and responsibility at the centre is exactly what the Dutch AI sector needs," says Pascal Mariany, co-founder of CivAI. "We see teachers and civil servants as designers of AI, not as consumers of it. We are keen to have that conversation within BRAIN as well."

What we will do

This autumn, BRAIN will launch working groups on education, AI literacy, the public sector, and responsible AI use. CivAI will join the Education working group. There, we will contribute our practical experience, from primary schools to universities of applied sciences and from municipalities to youth care. We will also contribute ideas on the quality mark for AI suppliers that BRAIN will develop in 2027, so that quality becomes verifiable and visible.

Founding Member
