CivAI meets the Edu-V qualification for Information Security & Privacy and is a candidate participant in the certification register.
Good news for schools working with EduGPT or considering it. Edu-V has confirmed that CivAI B.V. meets the qualification requirements for Information Security & Privacy (IBP). As a result, CivAI is now registered as a candidate participant in the Edu-V quality mark register.
What Edu-V is
Edu-V is the framework of agreements and quality mark for safe and standardised data exchange in primary, secondary, and vocational education. Public and private parties collaborate, with sector councils and supplier industry organisations at the table, and Kennisnet and SIVON as public partners. Edu-V is the successor to the Privacy Covenant for Education.
A digital learning tool with the Edu-V quality mark gives schools the assurance that data exchange meets important requirements for information security and privacy. Not every school has the time or expertise to assess this themselves. Edu-V arranges this centrally, allowing schools to focus on education.
What this means for schools
The Information Security & Privacy qualification is the first step towards the Edu-V quality mark. It means that CivAI holds an approved Edu-V model data processing agreement 4.1, including the mandatory annexes. These are the privacy statement, the security annex, and the amendment annex.
This is very practical for schools and school boards. They can use EduGPT based on the model data processing agreement known throughout the sector, rather than having to assess a supplier's own contract. SIVON has formally reviewed whether our documents are complete. Edu-V also forwards our information to Kennisnet, so that CivAI can be listed with the Data Processing Agreements Service on the Kennisnet website.
What comes next
Candidate participant is not the same as the quality mark, and we are honest about that. We may only use the Edu-V quality mark once the technical qualification of EduGPT's data services is completed and the material IBP qualification is positive. Edu-V has now registered us for that material qualification.
On the technical side, we are working towards the integrations planned in the quality mark register, from the identity declaration for single sign-on to connections with the learning environment. As soon as there is news about this, you will read it here.
Why this suits CivAI
Schools increasingly ask us two things at once. Can an AI assistant be used in the classroom, and is it safely arranged? With EduGPT, we consciously choose European sovereign hosting and processing of school data within Europe, and the models are not trained on schools' data. The Edu-V qualification confirms that the agreements on paper are correct as well. At the same time, our certification audit for ISO 27001 is currently underway.
Pascal Mariany, founder of CivAI, is pleased. "Schools don’t want vague promises; they want agreements supported by the entire sector. Now that we work with the Edu-V model data processing agreement, discussions with school boards and data protection officers are much simpler. And it keeps us sharp, because the next steps towards the quality mark are concrete."
