Dutch Data Protection Authority: Hurry up with safe AI
Important signal from the Dutch Data Protection Authority. Clarity regarding regulations around AI is indeed necessary.
At the same time, we see in practice that working safely and responsibly with AI is already possible, provided you set it up properly. The difference often lies in the choices you make: architecture, governance, and partners.
At CivAI, we therefore consciously opt for a sovereign AI infrastructure in Europe, without dependence on Big Tech. Among other things, we collaborate with Scaleway as a European cloud partner.
If you design it this way – privacy-by-design, EU hosting, transparent models, and clear governance – then you can indeed move quickly without losing sight of public values.
Example: for JeugdFV we are currently developing a fully sovereign transcription and reporting tool.

My experience: the question is not only which AI you use, but above all on which infrastructure and under which governance it runs.
So you can certainly move quickly.
But do choose the right foundations.
