EduGPT at Teaching and Learning with AI in Europe in Breda, with thanks to Sanjay Noronha
On Monday 19 October, EduGPT presented a poster at the conference Teaching and Learning with AI in Europe, held at Breda University of Applied Sciences. I was unable to attend myself. CivAI Trainer Sanjay Noronha took over and shared our story with an international audience of lecturers, researchers, and students.
It was busy. There were around twenty posters from all over Europe, and visitors had travelled from afar, some even from the Philippines. The poster session was the final part of a packed day, yet people lingered at our poster for a long time to ask questions.
What appealed most to visitors
Sanjay quickly noticed that lecturers were mainly interested in what EduGPT actually does in the classroom. Didactic AI Companions that provide feedback, a learning environment that responds with questions instead of ready-made answers, and lecturers building their own companions. That’s where he started the conversation. Only afterwards did questions arise about where the data is stored and who remains in control.
I think that’s a valuable lesson. Sovereignty is our foundation, but what convinces a lecturer is what AI does for student learning. Guiding instead of delivering. It fits our HEAR model, with the human at the beginning and end of every interaction with AI.
Students, on the other hand, saw things differently. They were enthusiastic about the awareness that is built into EduGPT as standard. With every conversation, you can see the cost in terms of CO2, water, and tokens. This makes the environmental costs of AI tangible, per conversation. We will be highlighting this more clearly in the coming period, including in our demos.
New contacts in Europe
Many visitors scanned the QR code to try EduGPT for themselves. Sanjay spoke with lecturers from universities in Sweden and the Czech Republic, among others, who are keen to learn more. We will be following up on these conversations in the coming weeks.
Thank you, Sanjay
Setting up a poster, explaining for an entire afternoon, and then returning with sharp observations and concrete suggestions for improvement. That is precisely what makes a CivAI Trainer so valuable. Sanjay, thank you for representing EduGPT so well in Breda. We will take your feedback with us to our next poster and demo.
