New in EduGPT, GovGPT, OrgGPT and CareGPT, from generating documents to the latest AI models

We made good use of the summer. Behind the scenes, we’ve been busy developing our AI environments, and much of this is now live in our customers’ environments.

This post lists the most important new features of EduGPT, GovGPT, OrgGPT, and CareGPT. Each section includes a short knowledge clip, so you can try it out yourself straight away. All clips have English subtitles via the CC button.

Create documents directly from the chat

You can now generate complete Word documents, Excel files, PowerPoints, and PDFs directly from the chat. Describe what you want, optionally add a file, and the ‘Create Documents’ integration builds the file for you. Download it, open it in Office, and continue working.

Think of a report as a Word document, an unreadable rubric converted into a clear Excel file with a tab for each section, or a compact PowerPoint based on a PDF. The answer first appears in the chat, so you can review and adjust before the file is created. The human remains in control.

The integration has been rolled out to active EduGPT environments and is now being rolled out in GovGPT, OrgGPT, and CareGPT. Automatic application of house style is still in development. Until then, you can easily transfer the result into your own template.

Open educational resources from Edusources and Edurep

Edusources from SURF and Edurep from Kennisnet are linked to EduGPT. This allows you to search and query open educational resources for almost every educational level in the Netherlands, directly from the chat, with a clickable reference to the source.

You can see exactly which source was used and where was searched, so every answer can be verified. You can use the same integration in your own AI Companion, alongside your own teaching materials. Open educational resources under a Creative Commons licence may be freely used, adapted, and shared. Sharing is caring.

Since the end of September, this integration is live in all active EduGPT environments.

The latest AI models, hosted in Europe

Our environments run on the latest generation of AI models. Via Azure within the EU, the newest GPT models from OpenAI from the 5.6 family are available. On the European cloud from Scaleway, you can choose from open models such as GLM 5.2, Qwen 3.5 and 3.6, Gemma 4, and Mistral Medium 3.5.

GLM 5.2 deserves a special mention. It’s an open model with a context window of 1 million tokens, allowing complete teaching methods, policy files, or annual reports to be processed in one go. It runs entirely on European infrastructure.

You choose the model per conversation or per companion, and you can place two models side by side to compare answers. You’ll notice this immediately in the quality of the answers, reasoning, and working with documents in your companions.

Better images, generating and recognising

Image generation has switched to the latest image models from OpenAI via Azure in the EU, with the 2.5 generation as the newest step. Richer compositions, better understanding of your prompt, and much faster results. You’ll notice this immediately in the Images Companion.

It also works the other way round. With image models such as Gemma 4 and Mistral, EduGPT recognises text, tables, and even handwriting on photos and scans. Useful for worksheets, marking work, and documents that only exist on paper.

File Search, citation-level searching in your own documents

With File Search, your AI Companion searches at citation level in your own documents. You can see exactly where the information comes from, with references to article and paragraph. This makes answers traceable and verifiable, and is different from simply uploading files into the context.

Large documents such as regulations, manuals, or legal codes work best with this. In the knowledge clip, I build an assistant for an exam committee as an example.

Build AI automations with n8n, directly from the chat

Describe in plain language what you want, and the n8n mate companion builds, tests, and publishes the workflow for you. A quiz form, a grade calculator, or a rubric that appears online as an interactive web page. No dragging blocks, no code.

This integration runs via MCP, the Model Context Protocol, the same open standard as the integrations above. It runs on our demo environment and can be activated in your environment on request.

Memory and speech

Chat memory is being rolled out in phases. Your environment then remembers relevant context between conversations, and you can see and manage what is remembered. Additionally, you can simply speak your question in Dutch, and have answers read aloud.

Safe internet searching

Searching the internet from the chat runs via our own European search stack. Since September, strict SafeSearch is enabled in all environments and search results have been greatly improved. You always see which sources have been used.

Insight into environmental impact

Under AI responses, you see indicative meters for CO2 emissions and water consumption. This makes visible what often remains hidden. Digital technology also has a physical footprint, and conscious choices begin with awareness.

Safety and trust

For GovGPT, login with mandatory two-step verification has been introduced. For higher education, login via SURFconext is available, alongside existing SSO integrations such as Entra ID.

In early October, the final audit for our ISO 27001 and NEN 7510 certification is scheduled, and Edu-V qualification is ongoing for EduGPT. Everything runs in Europe. Your data is stored in Europe and stays there.
