Webinar - EduGPT Live - AI in Educational Practice and Human in the Loop

Webinar - EduGPT Live - AI in Educational Practice and Human in the Loop | CivAI News

Today, together with Samenwerkingsverband VO Delflanden and Edutrainers we organised a live session around EduGPT.

We opened with a brief introduction of CivAI. Who are we, why did we start this, and what do we actually mean by EduGPT?
Afterwards, we took the participants through what we have developed over the past year: a fully sovereign, European-hosted AI environment for education at all levels, in which privacy, didactics and professional control have been considered from the outset. And how we are growing, 25+ schools in the Netherlands and also outside the Netherlands, together with our indispensable CivAI Certified Trainers.

The power of an SME organisation in this domain also became apparent. Not large and cumbersome, but close to practice, quick to learn and able to develop rapidly based on real questions from schools and institutions. That speed of iteration proved important. What emerges, for example, in a hackathon, pilot or training session(s), can relatively quickly be translated into new functionality, better guidance or a more concrete application.

Along the way, sharp points were raised, which were excellently addressed by Daniel Verloop.

Then it was the turn of Laura Walter-Goudsmit and Rob Jan Geertsen from Edutrainers. They told and showed how they use EduGPT within their context. Screen sharing, showing examples, no filters. This made it clear how AI only gains value when it becomes part of a professional practice, and does not remain stuck in isolated tools or general promises.

After their practical story, Pascal Mariany showed how EduGPT supports critical thinking. What didactic choices do you make, how do you guide interaction and why is it important that AI does not take over everything? It was not about generating answers faster, but about better guidance, better design and encouraging pupils and students to think more actively.

We then looked at various AI Companions that are already being used for feedback, coaching, reflection, AI literacy and guided learning. Not isolated experiments, but concrete building blocks with which you can anchor AI in the curriculum.

We also discussed the new Alerts & Signalling functionality. During the recent hackathon with Samenwerkingsverband VO Delflanden it became clear how much need there is for technology that not only generates, but also supports signalling and professional considerations around pupils who require extra attention.

EJay van Baaren shared how schools are experimenting with this and what conversations it prompts in practice.

It was not about “more AI”, but about designing better education with AI.

We concluded with the translation to a learning environment. We showed how you can generate structure for modules from EduGPT and how this can be sent directly to your learning environment via an LMS link.
