Why homework is changing due to AI, and how EduGPT is already responding to it
RTL reported this week that homework needs an overhaul because of AI. Teachers can no longer tell whether a student completed the assignment themselves or if ChatGPT took over. Some teachers are stopping written homework altogether and are returning to pen and paper in the classroom.
This is a logical consequence if a school does not offer an alternative. Banning it does not work; students will use AI anyway, only then without any guidance.
At EduGPT, we solve this in a different way. The tool does not provide ready-made answers to copy. It asks counter-questions and encourages students to arrive at the solution themselves. Critical thinking is embedded in the conversation, not added as a separate lesson on top.
Researchers from Microsoft found something this year that directly relates to this. The more people rely on AI, the less they think critically about the outcome themselves. This is exactly the pattern teachers are now seeing in their students’ homework.
